BUILDING AUTHORITY

- The Building Unit is responsible for controlling the standards of building in the twin-
town. The BU aims to ensure that building are safe, stable and are designed,
constructed and maintained in ways that promote sustainable development,
particularly in the face of Climate Change.

through the application of a building permit. An important role of the BU is deciding
whether to grant a permit to people planning to build.

- An approved building permit is a confirmation that the building plans comply with the
council’s building code, building regulations and town planning requirements.

-The officers are responsible to guide the public through a transparent process of
application, approval, and validity. All building applications must accompany a
building plan with documentation and lodgement fee.

- Once approval is granted, the officers will conduct inspections to ensure that all
respective persons comply with the building codes at various stages of construction,
Stages for Inspection may include foundation/footing inspection, decking floor/wall
framing inspection, column inspection, suspended floor and beam inspection, Roof
beam inspection, Roof structural inspection, Drainage inspection, Building services
inspection, Completion inspection and/or Final inspection.
